sound not working on sony vgc-ra820g

hello, i am trying to slowly move over to linux, but i am having a little bit of an issue with the sounds not working in linux...

I did a little searching on the forums and on google but the results i found where quite out of date or they applied to something that is no longer available. The sound card in the computer is an Intel High Definition Audio card that is built onto the mother board. However, i am not 100% on this, but i think there might be 2 cards in it, because there are many different outputs and inputs, and windows sees it as a total of (i believe) 3 cards, 2 inputs and 1 output.

There is an output in the front of the computer (the one i use) and 2 outputs on the back of the computer (for hooking up other devices, like tv).

As for the exact model type, i am not sure, but i'd be happy to run any commands that are suggested and echo the output to you guys...

This is your card. It says UNCLAIMED. Your penguin needs kernel support. Unfortunately, I have not used this model. I just searched LQ site using "82801FB" and "ICH6" and several threads show up. Check these and see what happens.

actually i re-installed ubuntu and it still didnt work, then i pluged my headphones into the back of the computer and now it works...
