Anyone has successful experience removing the 'firefox-branding' package?

What problem are you having? Do you have the abrowser-branding package installed?

Oh, I just want to remove it because I don't like "unnecessary" packages.

OK, if I have to make a choice between firefox-branding and abrowser-branding, but not neither of them, I'll stick to firefox-branding, unwillingly.

Do you mean the Firefox addon in Ubuntu that is called: Ubuntu firefox modifications?
If so, you can elect to disable it from the: tools > addons menu in Firefox.
If you really want to remove it, according to this thread you can just uninstall ubufox and when you restart Firefox it will be gone:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/ubufox
For what it's worth, I have never had a single problem with the Ubuntu firefox modifications.

I assume you are running the current version of Ubuntu, which is 10.04 Lucid Lynx. Is that correct? Your profile says Debian, but this is the Ubuntu forum section.
