Printing on Home Network

I have a Desktop machine with Edgy installed. Connected to it as a Canon i475D printer. From that desktop machine, I can print anything with ease. My Dapper laptop is part of the network and I can share files and read files on the network using SMB. I can make an SMB connection to the printer and it was detected during setup. Unfortunately, when I go to print something, nothing happens. There is a print job in the queue, but the job keeps timing out.

HELP!

How do you print locally?

I have a different printer (Brother), and print using CUPS. Windows machines on the local network print to that using IPP. (They do need the driver for that specific printer locally installed.) In a way, I use CUPS to do the routing for me.

go to http://localhost:631/ it should help you set it up and contains a guide. If it doesn't work install "cupsys".

Well, I finally got it to work. I did a little searching around. I used the Ubuntu print wizard, chose network pronter and used ipp (instead of SAMBA) with the following setting...
Code:
ipp://192.168.2.101/printers/BJC-7000/
192.168.2.101 is the local IP address of the PC with the printer and BJC-7000 is the name assigned to the printer on the host machine. After telling the wizard what model of printer it was, it started working like a charm.
