Password Recovery

Is it possible in Ubuntu to recover the system password by going to the grub menu selections screen and selecting the image and pressing "e" and then select the kernel and press "e" and then adding "s" at the end of the line and then "b" to boot?

I know this works on RHEL/Fedora but not sure about Ubuntu.

I only have one account on this machine (not including root) and forgot the password...

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I think that you can just choose the safe mode option in grub, then change the password for your user. I'm not positive this will work though.

Yes, but if you know root's password then as root reset/change the users password;

passwrd username
newpassword
newpassword

A default install of Ubuntu doesn't have an active root account. It uses sudo instead.
