Question Noob Ubuntu 9.10 questions

Hi all,

I'm new to Ubuntu and just installed v9.10. I have some questions on how do I:

1. Setup Huawei E220 modem to use an unlisted internet provider?
2. Edit GRUB OS selection list?
3. Get some audio video codecs (MP3, AVI, MOV, MPG etc)?

Thanks in advance,
Meg

Ubuntu 9.10 uses grub2. Editing grub2 is different from grub-legacy.
The first thing you should do is run:
Code:
sudo update-grub
from the terminal (applications > accessories > terminal). This should detect all of your operating systems and allow you to boot them from the grub menu. If you need more specific help with grub2, see these 2 excellent resources:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub2
http://members.iinet.net/~herman546/p20.html
(Grub 1.97 is the same thing as grub2 in Ubuntu 9.10.)

For the multimedia codecs, see these:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats
Also, if you open any audio or video file with Totem media player (applications > sound & video > movie player) it will prompt you to install any codec that you may need to play the file. Enable the medibuntu repositories as per the link I posted first though.
