Question new on 7.04, difficulties playing aac media

hi everyone, i just finished installing and updating ubuntu 7.04 on my old pc. everything works great and i like it way better than windows, BUT i cant seem to find a way to play my aac media.
At first i made a data disk on windows with some of my aac music, but when i put them on my linux machine rythmbox wouldnt add the files, so i deleted them. then i plugged in my ipod (nano 3gen) and to my surprise my playlist came up. But it wouldnt play. i read somewhere that xmms and amorak can play them, so i replaced rhythmbox with amorak. amorak didnt want to connect with my ipod at all, so i got xmms, and it wont even add the 7 ogg songs i riped with sound juicer, let alone connect to my ipod.
So heres my question. Im new at linux and i was wondering how to play aac encoded files/sync my ipod.
also, but less important, i tried removing amorak, and it says to use the synaptic pakage manager, and i have know idea ho to use that...

Yes if they don't have drm (if you bought them on iTunes and they aren't specifically drm free, you won't be able to easily play them on linux). You'll need to install the aac plugins, just pull up synaptic (add/remove packages menu option) and search for aac.
