In ubuntu 5.10

system > administration > networking
(password opens the "network settings" dialog)

select "ethernet connection" and configure accordingly.

of course - you may need a driver, possibly through ndiswrapper.
google your card name and number with "ubuntu" or "linux". Also search the forums here. There are many howtos for this.

There is a hardware discovery script here:
http://wiki.linux.net.nz/archive/debian/

the file you want is: wlug-pci_1.0-1_i386.deb

after installing, kill the panel, then look under applications > system tools for WLUG Hardware Discovery Script.

More WLUG/NZLUG stuff for ubuntu:

http://wiki.linux.net.nz/UbuntuPostInstall
provides a post-install script for ubuntu - you'll need to change "hoary" to "breezy".
