need help running a script for ubuntu PPA keys, please.

Hi,
I am running Jaunty. I have several PPA sources for apt. There is a cool scipt that will add all of the authentication keys to access the PPA repositories.

But I can't run it. I did run it on my last install of a complete ubuntu installation by extracting the downloaded .tar to the desktop, then running "sudo nautilus" and running the script in a terminal.

This installation is from an ubuntu minimal CD installation. I installed file-roller with synaptic and I am able to extract the .tar, but I can't get the script to run.

Here is the terminal content:

user@ubuntu:~$ cd
user@ubuntu:~$ cd Desktop
user@ubuntu:~/Desktop$ ./launchpad-update
bash: ./launchpad-update: Permission denied
user@ubuntu:~/Desktop$ sudo ./launchpad-update
[sudo] password for user:
sudo: ./launchpad-update: command not found
user@ubuntu:~/Desktop$
user@ubuntu:~/Desktop$
user@ubuntu:~/Desktop$

my user name is "user" and the .tar and its extracted contents are on the desktop.

** maybe a quick glance at the script's web page might be of help:

http://webupd8.blogspot.com/2009/05/...y-install.html

the extracted file on the desktop is called "launchpad-update" and if I look at the properties it is a "link to shell script (application/x-shellscript)" and its Link target is "/home user Desktop/launchpade-update".

Geez, I hope you can help!

B.

I tried this script too and couldn't get it to work.

I usually use a different script and that works for me - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1056099

That is interesting that it does not work for you. It is the same script that I saved to a thumb drive just two days ago when it worked in my previous jaunty installation.

Does it link to a server or something else that could be having trouble. I might try the link that you gave if this does not work. I just used one of the really, really small installation CDs for this Jaunty installation. I have Firefox gedit, leafpad, ubuntu tweak and synaptic - nothing else and I am going to try to keep it that way. I am hesitant to install perl and the other things just to run the script.

Having a few computers I tried it on another and it worked. (???)

As the website says it is downloaded. It is a .tar. That is unpacked with Archive Manager. I checked the permissions and it was executable. I navigated with the terminal to the folder and issued the command. It worked.

(Mumble, mumble. Try Computer #1 again...)
