Menu items gone

Some applications are gone from my ubuntu (gnome) menus. I think, but am not sure, that this happnened after I added xfce (xubuntu desktop). Why could this happen, and is there a way to restore these items without uninstalling and re-installing packages?

I don't know why they would disappear, but try right-clicking Applications and selecting Edit Menus. You can then check the boxes for them. Or if they don't have boxes to be checked, go to File and Add item.

Thank you. I forgot to mention that the menu items for these applications are not available at all as unchecked boxes. But the applications themselves are still installed, and do appear in the xfce menu.

I know that in KDE there was an application that searched for installed software without menu items and added them to the KDE menu. Is there not an equivalent gnome application?
