To my knowledge the last version support on PPC was 6.06 LTS. I just grabbed the PPC Live/Install DVD from the Ubuntu site and booted off the CD.
If you hold the C button on bootup your mac should boot off a bootable CD/DVD. There were options in the install that allowed me to resize the Mac partitions and make room to install Linux as well. It also automatically setup the dual boot.
