Question local host asking for password, not my password

I'm getting the pop up box "authentication required" with message "a username and password are being requested by http://localhost:34043. the site says "administrator" " This is happening when I open Firefox and is stopping the loading of the page. I have entered my username and root password and it is rejected. Any idea where this is coming from? how to remove whatever it is? I am currently using Konqueror and not getting the pop up so I suspect it is a firefox related issue.

A random box pops up that you didn't expecting, do you put in your root password? Nice! Mind you though, you're on ubuntu right? So you don't have a root password to put in..?

anyway, if you want to see what's listening on that port, run 'netstat -plnt' as root / sudo and you'll then see the port, process name etc that is on that port.

Is Firefox configured to use that address as a proxy server? If not then I would back up my bookmarks to an html file in your home directory, then delete the .mozilla directory tree.

I ran that command and this is what I got
root@neve:~# netstat -plnt
Active Internet connections (only servers)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:34043 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 1646/beam.smp
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:34812 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 1750/ssl_esock
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:631 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 992/cupsd
tcp6 0 0 ::1:631 :::* LISTEN 992/cupsd

I'm not sure what beam.smp is though. And yes I am running ubuntu 10.04 , the password is the only password no root password.
