linux restricted modules:determining kernel

I'm slowly piecing together how to get my scroll to work, and I need to know how I can tell which linux restricted module to download for my kernel. How can I determine this information for my particular system?

Go to Applications --> Accessories --> Terminal

Then at the terminal type:

uname -a

I get the following information:

Linux hrp2171-desktop 2.6.15-28-686 #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Feb 1 16:14:07 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

The bit in bold is what you need to match to the restricted modules when installing. Yours might be different.

"uname -r" would give just what you wanted.
