LibreOffice 7.2 problems

Hi All,
I'm running Kubuntu
Code:
 cat /etc/os-release
NAME="Ubuntu"
VERSION="20.04.3 LTS (Focal Fossa)"
ID=ubuntu
ID_LIKE=debian
PRETTY_NAME="Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS"
VERSION_ID="20.04"
HOME_URL="https://www.ubuntu.com/"
SUPPORT_URL="https://help.ubuntu.com/"
BUG_REPORT_URL="https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/"
PRIVACY_POLICY_URL="https://www.ubuntu.com/legal/terms-and-policies/privacy-policy"
VERSION_CODENAME=focal
UBUNTU_CODENAME=focal
And trying to run LibreOffice 7.2

It opens but when I try to enter a the folder that I work in with 7.0,

LibreOffice reports: "Error opening directory '/home/writer':Permission denied"

I have noted too, that 7.2 does not have access to the list of recent files, visible in 7.0.

Is there more information I could add to help with this problem?

Regard
Chris

How did you install LibreOffice 7.2? From a snap?

Then please read
https://snapcraft.io/docs/snap-confinement
https://snapcraft.io/docs/interface-management
as well as
3. Handling interfaces and permissions in your snaps in the Advanced snap usage tutorial.

Was it from the LibreOffice Still PPA then?

I believe so.

I'm going to remove it. Start again.

7.0 is working well.

Thanks.

I am unable to remove LibreOffice 7.2

I want to remove it, because it doesn't work, and that may be the way it was installed. I do not know how it was installed.

I have used both the Muon and the Synaptics package managers, and neither can find a version of the Libreoffice I want to remove, which is clearly identified in itself and the application launcher lists as 7.2, as opposed to the version 7.0, also listed and the one I currently use, and certainly don't want to risk losing.

I've looked at the history, it means little to me, I will, if I may, post it into a code box, for you to appraise.

Code:
Upgrade: libreoffice-wiki-publisher:amd64 (1.2.0+LibO7.2.5~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1, 1.2.0+LibO7.3.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1), libreoffice-style-breeze:amd64 (1:7.2.5~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1, 1:7.3.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1), libreoffice-math:amd64 (1:7.2.5~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1, 1:7.3.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1), liblibreoffice-java:amd64 (1:7.2.5~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1, 1:7.3.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1), libreoffice-script-provider-js:amd64 (1:7.2.5~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1, 1:7.3.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1), libreoffice-report-builder-bin:amd64 (1:7.2.5~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1, 1:7.3.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1), uno-libs-private:amd64 (1:7.2.5~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1, 1:7.3.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1), libreoffice-sdbc-postgresql:amd64 (1:7.2.5~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1, 1:7.3.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1), update-manager-core:amd64 (1:20.04.10.9, 1:20.04.10.10), libreoffice-sdbc-mysql:amd64 (1:7.2.5~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1, 1:7.3.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1), libuno-salhelpergcc3-3:amd64 (1:7.2.5~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1, 1:7.3.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1), libreoffice-java-common:amd64 (1:7.2.5~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1, 1:7.3.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1), libreoffice-base:amd64 (1:7.2.5~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1, 1:7.3.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1), libreoffice-core:amd64 (1:7.2.5~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1, 1:7.3.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1), libreoffice-kf5:amd64 (1:7.2.5~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1, 1:7.3.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1), libnm0:amd64 (1.22.10-1ubuntu2.2, 1.22.10-1ubuntu2.3), ure-java:amd64 (1:7.2.5~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1, 1:7.3.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1), network-manager:amd64 (1.22.10-1ubuntu2.2, 1.22.10-1ubuntu2.3), libreoffice-sdbc-firebird:amd64

Yes, those are the same packages as in the PPA I linked to above. apt can remove a specific version if it is explicitly told to. Like this
Code:
sudo apt remove '~n^libreoffice~Vlo1$'

Thanks shruggy, I'm having difficulty discriminating between the actual commnd required and what seem to be editing separators.

Are the terms to be enclosed in inverted commas for execution?

Should I actually use the term ~n^libreoffice and what is Vlo1$ ?

My concern is focussing on the 7.2 version and leaving the 7.0 version intact.

Do you have installed 7.0 from a PPA as well? Try the apt command with -s/--simulate before committing to the real thing.
Code:
sudo apt -s remove '~n^libreoffice~Vlo1$'
I was presuming (perhaps, wrongly) that 7.0 packages don't have lo1 in their version strings.

It is meant to be executed verbatim, including any separators.

Those are described in apt-patterns(7).
  • ~n^libreoffice is a shorthand for ?name(^libreoffice)
  • ~Vlo1$ is a shorthand for ?version(lo1$)
  • ^libreoffice is a regular expression meaning any string that starts with libreoffice
  • lo1$ is a regular expression meaning any string that ends with lo1

Rather more than I expected, but equally as confusing!

Code:
crb999@crb999-OptiPlex-7010:~$ apt list --installed | grep -i libreoffice

WARNING: apt does not have a stable CLI interface. Use with caution in scripts.

So, you have three versions of LibreOffice installed: 7.2.5 from a snap, 7.3.0 from a PPA, and 7.0.2 probably from a .deb file. Decide which one you want to retain.

As to snap, see my post #2.
