Kubuntu Feisty, slow internet
Hi
I just installed Kubuntu next to my Fedora System, since I couldn't get 3D acceleration to work under Fedora 6. All in all I'm perfectly happy - 3D works, wine works a lot better than it does under Fedora, and Synaptic beats every gui for yum I've ever tested.
The only problem I have is my internet connection.
I have a DSL 6000 broadband connection, and under Fedora and Windoze I get download rates of about 700kb/s. With Kubuntu, I get only about 200, no matter wether I use Firefox, KGet or wget to download a file. Other programs, such as synaptic, also show only 200.
I searched the web and found I'm not the only one with this problem, but I haven't really found a solution.
One suggestion was to install Firestarter, and since I was going to install that anyway, I tried that first. It had no effect, however - which doesn't really surprise me; I couldn't see what it would have to do with connection speed.
Another suggestion was to turn off ipv6 systemwide, but no one really explained how to do that. I'm willing to try that, if someone could tell me how. But I'm also open for other suggestions.
Has anyone else here come across this problem? Searching LQ didn't bring any results.
Any help would be appreciated.
