Kubuntu 8.10... a bad joke, isnt it?
Hi all,
after long time I decided (and had to) install a new Linux PC. Since I was using different versions of (K)Ubuntu for some time very successful. I decided to pick the Kubuntu 8.10 (64) version (I prefer KDE over Gnome because of the applications to use, Kaffeine, K3b, Amarok, QT development).
I would call the experience a nightmare! Maybe it was just a bad day, but I closed it with downloading 8.04 and installing it.
Installation went ok, but afterwards...
Directly wanted to update to KDE 4.2, it took me ages to find out how that works as the new Adept is not at all straight forward to use (but I also did a small mistake, but the descripton on how to install it shows a mixture of old and new Adept).
It took my quite some time to get something done with the new Adept, e.g. get Firefox installed, I just did not find it (was successful at the end).
Next, where is Kaffeine? Not installed, so installed it manually (again fight with Adept), but still a KDE 3 application. Does not matter. But I could not get it working to play a DVD, it asked me to install the libdvdcss lib. Did it, same as described in the error message, went successful (as per feedback from the install script), but did not change anything.
The alternative Video player (Dragon or something like that) just did not do anything, even not giving an error message.
As watching videos was exactly what I wanted to do, I gave up on it!
So, is it just me having a bad day or is it Kubuntu 8.10?
Am I doing something wrong with the new Adept? Is there a way to make it behave like the old version (showing me a list of all packages with easy to select filter and the packages being sorted alphabetically). I did not find that way, yes there are filter, but I did not get it, especially not alphabetic order of all packages.
Did not see many discussion around that here, so maybe it is me!
Thanks!
