Uh, Skype's available on Ubuntu. Sure the repository may be old, but I can get the debian package from Skype themselves.
Yep, this script does exactly that, it downloads the deb package from the skype website and installs it - saves an inexperienced user having to navigate to the skype website, find the correct version, and install it.

Oh, I thought it installed the Windows version, since Wine was mentioned. After all, I doubt my webcam will work with programs in wine. It was hardy enough getting it to work and not have any green image/video problems.
Wondering if anyone has tested this script on LinuxMint 7 yet? since it's based on Ubuntu, it should work without hiccup,.. I am looking for solutions for I-Tunes. If this will run I-tunes for me, then I don't need to find a a replacement (i.e. gtkpod, amarok, etc...)

Yeah, I just looked up Linux Mint and it seems the current version is based on Ubuntu 9.04 so it should work the same....BEWARE THOUGH: To use this script you need either Gnome Terminal
Code:
sudo aptitude install gnome-terminal
or if you are using the KDE release of linux mint, Konsole
Code:
sudo aptitude install konsole
. Just not entirely sure they are included, as I have never used Linux Mint.
On a more general note, I can say that this script will install iTunes for you, and that iTunes will run and play your music. However, it is very unclear to what extent you will be able to sync your ipod, access the music store, and do things like burn CDs. Really, the support for iTunes in Wine is probably not yet advanced enough for it to be your everyday programme - this is more just an improvement in that finally it installs and runs without crashing. But by all means try it, just don't expect perfection.
You would probably be better off using a real linux application, obviously Amarok and Rhythmbox are the two most commonly mentioned, but I really like Banshee.
For running Windows applications on Linux in general, I'd really recommend PlayOnLinux, http://www.playonlinux.com/en/ I only discovered it recently and it gets so many things to work I wouldn't have thought possible. (But of course show my script some love as well )
InstiSky is simply a shell script, so all that is needed is to downall Issue. Help?!
Hi.
I did THIS:
"iSky is simply a shell script, so all that is needed is to download it from the site: https://sourceforge.net/projects/isky/
Copy it into the /usr/bin directory and then make it executable and run it. Contact me if you need baby-steps instructions as to how you do this."
I made sure it was executable and ran it by using ./iSky.sh.
Immediately, a terminal opened and I got an error message that said "There was an error creating a child process for this terminal."
Any hints as to what to do from here?
I did some searching on the 'net and coudn't find much as to HOW to install. Would it be possible for someone to please post the steps to this process? Or maybe some troubleshooting hints?
Much Thanks,
ab

I'm using Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope & I cannot get iSky to install properly. I don't understand how to install it at all. I've tried the steps but they're confusing to me. Can someone email me the steps or post them here please? I just want to use iTunes for my music collection & podcasts. I'm probably entering something in wrong. Please help! I can't get the .deb to build at all. I cannot copy anything to /usr/lib, it says permission denied. Thanks
The instrucitons make it seem so simple but I'm getting errors.
Seems like it woudl be great to have/use.
