Installing word 2007 with wine

Hi,

I tried to install word2007 on kubuntu 9.10 with wine1.01 but everytime i got an error message in wine saying
"setup cannot continue because a required file is either corrupt or not available. Run setup again from the original source disk or download location"

This is strange because in my previous installation of kubuntu 9.10 I could run word2007 without any problems.

Does anyone know how to solve this annoying problem?

thanx

Was it the same version of Wine? "Reversions" aren't that uncommon with changes in Wine; looking at the latest winehq listing has a few suggestions for getting it to work ( http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...sion&iId=12811 ). If possible, make a brand new installation of wine, wiping out your previous install before putting the new one on.

You might also be interested in CrossOver---this is the commercial (paid) version of WINE, and they officially support Office 07. They have a free trial available.

PlayOnLinux also supports Office 2007.

It's FREE.

It's available from repository on 9.10

Hi, I installed Office 2007.
You can try my procedure to install MSoffice in your system.

see this link ... how i installed MSOffice in my system

follow the steps, some notes will be end of page. those notes are regarding wine, application those don't work . etc...

If you got any problem after following that procedure, post here.

I also failed several times with wine. But got it right the first time with PlayOnLinux. It does all the hard work for you.

I've managed to install it by uninstalling my current wine version (1.0.1) and installing wine 1.1.33 (didn't know that there were different versions at the same time :-)). This did the trick and everything works as before.

I know, but actually i don't like openoffice that much. When writing my thesis, I used word 2007 and it did the job very well. For instance citing sources when using citations and the reference list, headings, smart-objects...
So, I don't want to switch over to openoffice and missing all this stuff (or having to search and learn them again in openoffice...)

thanx for the help

So, after installing new version of wine ... your office working fine is n't it ?

then good, you got it solved. "make this thread as SOLVED, using thread tools" this option is at top of the thread
