Well, I formatted my XP laptop and installed Ubuntu tonight. I've been working with or around Linux since RH6 or so, and I'm loving this distro. I've always been a fan of Gentoo but the ease of use factor of Ubuntu puts it over the top for me. I installed the system in maybe 20 mins with minimal effort, it supported everything except my wireless network card (which I now have working fine, maybe 10 mins of work for that), it comes with all the required software, and it has the "little things" like auto updates and nice package management. If I didn't work in C#.NET everyday, I'd never use Windows again.

Interesting to hear you say that. I installed 2 days ago on my desktop, formerly RedHat 9, and am really wanting to love it. Many things are great. Feels a lot faster than my aging RH too. But I am struggling with a couple of things like getting my LaserJet 3020 printer/scanner drivers installed properly, and compiling PHP 5. If I get through it in a few more days, hallelujah. If not, Fedora here I come.
The reason there are so many distros out is because everyone has different tastes and needs. PHP 5 should work with no problem. PHP 4 is on the package list and PHP 5 can't be far behind if you can wait. The 3020 might be a a tough one.
