Hi all,
I have my update manager in Ubuntu 11.04 set to check for updates daily and only notify about available updates. Recently whenever I start up my computer, the update manager starts and asks me to install updates, when I click the install button, I get the notice: "Requires installation of untrusted packages." And also: "The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources."
In the details section I see:
Quote:
adobe-flash-properties-gtk adobe-flashplugin
I read a link I found in a similar thread: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SecureApt. I cannot fully understand everything in it. I get that my updates don't install because the key for the package is not authenticated, but how is it that a key for flash is not authenticated? I have flash installed, so shouldn't it be authenticated already?
How do I resolve this? an explanation would also be helpful.
I am having the same issue, but, something to do with FireFox! The thing I do not understand is, this is a fresh install of ubuntu 11.04 from their install file! How could there be "ANYTHING" in their own install file not pre-authenticated??? And why the heck won't the updater install the other authenticated updates instead of just quitting completely???
Slightly frustrating!!!

Flash is not part of the clean install repos. It is not foss. You must have grabbed a .deb from some site (bad idea for a noob) or added "medibuntu" to your sources list (good idea)
Linux in general is hard to infect with malware because of security being built in. If you try something not pre approved it will not go. It is intended to be frustrating. To anyone trying to corrupt the system. You are triggering ALL the internal safe guards.
widget,
not sure who's post you are answering! sounds like both at the same time (that seems very noobish). and newbie refers to the time on this system not working with linux, BTW!!!
Turns out in my case it was not having an actual live internet connection. I ran a physical cable connection & reran the install (also, checking to install updates & 3rd party apps, not sure what of the three really fixed the problem). Once up and running the updater worked fine along with everything else, now!
On the originial install (wireless connection only), once installed, the wireless connection started working fine and at that point updater would not work. What this is (as frustrating as it is, built in or not) is slack programming on someones lack of proper testing! The fact I did not have a working Internet connection during the initial install, should NOT have caused the problems I had! If an Internet connection is required from the beginning, then why the heck would it let me install at all, when the installer saw that there was no Internet connection??? Just saying...
After that finished, I went to my update manager and updated the system and it worked. The only thing now is that I don't know why it worked this way and not another way as I did not change any settings.
Thanks for the help!
