Have you updated to the current packages? There was a bug in the GM965 that had 7.10 blacklist the 965 till 24 Nov 2007. https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/111257

First I would note that you are not loading the dri module, try changing your modules section to as follows:

and perhaps adding this at the bottom of your config. (try without first)

Also I believe the option should be

thogh looking through the man page for the option I did not see it.

Alas I stopped using compiz in favor of dual screen, but otherwise it looks right. The only other tweak you might add to the mix is changing your driver from "intel" to "i810". Since Mandriva worked with the attached xorg though I doubt that is the problem.
