hyperthreading in ubuntu?

Hello there,

Fedora Core 4 detected that i have HT support enabled and when i launch "System Monitor" it shows 2 CPUs but it only show 1 CPU if i append "acpi=off" at the kernel boot line furthermore it automatically installs the kernel with an .smp

SUSE did not managed to detected that expect that it informs me that i have a 64bit system and that im trying to install 32bit software in it so to get things working i need to turn of powersaved and append "acpi=off" at the kernel boot line furthermore it automatically installs the kernel with an .smp.

Ubuntu-Breezy also did not detect that i have HT support enabled by default by BIOS moreover the kernel being install defaults to i386 meaning that i will not be able to use the full capabilities of my processor. Am i rite on this?

why the 3 distros detect my system differently and how do i make sure that in Ubuntu it detects that i use HT enabled processor so that i will be able to use the processors capabilities?

Thank you.

I have a AMD64 but do not think 64 bit kernels and software are advanced enough so I stay with 32 bit distros.

2) to enable hyperthreading.....if the kernel of your distro supports it and your processor can do it.....
change this in your grub line or lilo
acpi=ht
