Question How to verify integrity of Edubuntu addon CD?

I just finished, for the 3rd time, attempting to build a Ubuntu 8.10/Edubuntu install. On all 3 occasions I have received errors to the effect that certain packages were not installed (from the Edubuntu CD). This time I made the mistake of also trying to install a restricted Nvidia driver so the whole install is toast and I cannot get to the error messages which I saved.

I am guessing that the issue is with the CD or CD drive. When I first install Ubuntu I am given the opportunity to verify the integrity of the CD. The dialog which comes up when I load the Edubuntu CD it does not give me such an option. I see a file with the MD5 digest values for the individual files on the CD however, I am not inclined to check the files one by one.

Thanks in advance for any advise. I think I will try to install Edubuntu on a VMWare machine this time. Quicker to back that up than to reinstall 8.10 from scratch on my old physical test box.

TIA,

Ken

If you go to the second link I will give here, the MD5SUMS file contains the checksums for the whole ISO image. I found that page via the first link I provide here (though the user in that thread also claimed he was having problems despite a correct checksum).

Good luck!

Thanks GrapefruiTgirl. I was aware of the MD5 for the entire ISO although I generally do not check the iso files after download. The code to check the MD5s for the individual files
Quote:
md5sum -c md5sum.txt | grep -v 'OK$'
looks interesting. I will have to give it a try.

That said... I did successfully install the Edubuntu add ons to a VMWare virtual machine on another PC. I think that a hardware issue with the old CD drive on the OLD PC may have been the source of the problem.

Regards,

Ken
