How to make leafpad to print

Hi folks,

Ubuntu 7.04 server amd64

I have the simple editor leafpad_0.8.9 running on the server. However I can't get it to print. There is no print function on the drop muenu. I need to print the file as .pdf document.

I have cups-pdf installed.

$ apt-cache policy cups-pdf
Code:
cups-pdf:
  Installed: 2.4.2-3
  Candidate: 2.4.2-3
  Version table:
 *** 2.4.2-3 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com feisty/universe Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
$ /etc/init.d/cupsys status
Code:
Status of Common Unix Printing System: cupsd is running.
cups is running.

Please advise how to make leafpad to print .pdf fils. TIA

You need to upgrade leafpad to version 0.8.13 or newer: printing was added in 0.8.13.

Thanks for your advice.

How to get the newer or newest package. I can't find it on Ubuntu repo. Which repo provides leafpad 0.8.13? TIA

Thanks for your URL

I'm running version 0.8.9 here w/o problem but w/o printing function. I need printing .txt file as .pdf. I have cups-pdf running here.

Since this is a server I only install a light-weight destop 'flux" with limited X pacakges.

I'll download version 0.8.13 and run;

$ sudo aptitude upgrade package
to install it.

Any advice or precaution I have to observe. TIA

Question printing with leafpad

I have leafpad version 0.8.18.1 . The only option I have for printing is to 'print to file' How do I make it recognize my USB printer?

Install/configure cups according to your distros docs. lpd/lpr printing is part of cups.

Or if you don't want CUPS, you can always save to file as a .ps document. If you have a postscipt printer you can direct that file to the printer port and it will print. If it's a PCL printer you will need to convert that .ps file to a .pcl file first.

By the way, this thread is 14 years old.
