Question hoary (ubuntu 5.04) would be perfect with this one "little" thing supported...

... and that "thing" is winmodems.

Then it would be "perfect" imo.

Does anyone know if ubuntu will ever support them natively?

Not many distros support winmodems unless the manufacturers or others have written drivers, so this isn't just an Ubuntu problem.
