Help with Wifi passcode issue on laptop

Hi!, I am dual booting ubuntu 12.04 with win 7 on Lenovo G560 laptop, it has a broadcom chip for wifi. When I first istalled ubuntu all worked fine until recently. A month ago I updated ubuntu and after the update the network manager would just 'attempt' to connect and then ask me for passcode several times but for some reason it would not get past that stage, my modem/router works fine with other devices and I have verified my passcode.

So I thought that problem would be in package/some-config-file and purged network-manager and network-manager-gnome packages so that I could download the binary and manually install it, however, the binaries on ubuntu site are newer and would not install on my current system.

What to do?

Thanks.

We need more information to offer useful suggestions.

There are security and encryption settings that become available when you click to edit a connection in Network Manager. Have you tried changing those one at a time and testing; if so, what have you tried and what happened?

Please also post the contents of the file, /etc/network/interfaces, which you can either open with an editor or display in a terminal with the command

Code:
cat /etc/network/interfaces
and the output of the command

Code:
ifconfig -a
entered in a terminal, being sure to surround them with "code" tags (as above), which become available when you click the "Go Advanced" button at the bottom of the "Quick Reply" window. It makes the information easier to read.

Hi frankbell, the wireless security settings in network-manager gui offers WPA/WPA2 encryptin, which is what I have set and use(also it used to work perfectly fine). Now that I have managed to update my system and install network manager here is the output of first command:
Code:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
output of second command:

Code:

okay, the problem is now resolved, I tried different things all together so don't know for sure which arrow hit the mark. I uninstalled old kernels, images, headers, sources then purged wireless related packages like wpa supplicant and iw etc. and reinstalled the wireless packages(only). Also a broadcom stu driver was installed which I removed/purged too (I think this must be the culprit, but am no expert). Anyway it's resolved so m good.
