help! something wrong with ubuntu!

hey guys, I was trying to get beryl to work on ubuntu fiesty, but I got the white screen of death, and when I tried to fix it, It was late last night and I was very tired...well I did something wrong, and now my desk top is seriously messed up. when I open a window, it stays on the top of the tool bar,as if it is stuck there and wont move, no matter what I do. also the window doesnt show up on the bottom bar as it should. and when I open firefox, it looks as if a million browsers open up, but there is only one. whats going on? can someone help me fix this?

thanks,
daniel

change your window manager

When you installed Beryl/Compiz it replaces your windowmanager. Gnome uses Metacity by default in Ubuntu; I would start with trying to change your WM back to Metacity.
