What size do you guys give to each partition? The default is 4,
right? Desktop, not server. I may only install some common software, such
as open office (200M?), latex package (200M?) , R (50M?), gimp (30M?), no
game. Thanks a lot.
My disk is not very small, but I still prefer not wasting any space. Bottomline, I won't save any personal file in OS, right? But on the safe side, I hope it can still hold for several years.
well where do you think that that space is going to be wasted? without any compelling case in either direction, just stick with the defaults and things will most likely be fine.
It`s depend on you.
For basic installation 4GB for / is quite enough. Of corse, you maust add swapp. Best way is (you say: "I still prefer not wasting any space") to put 5GB for / + SWAP + rest for /home (in case if you want to remove ubuntu, or reinstall or what ever...it is better to have this 3 partitions).
