Its not there? Hmm...I think your computer is haunted :P
If its not there, then it should have not given the root ownership error. Are you sure you did "ls -a" and saw all the files? (Since you have approx 597 posts, I'm sure you must have checked)
You know what...get another window manager....like XFCE or something. Then try to start Nautulis and gnome-panel. Just a suggestion, coz I'm really out of ideas...
You see?! Sometimes I feel like giving up my Linux Guru badge.
I think what I did to find out if the directory was there or not was correct to tell..... however, I didn't do a ls -a.... so as soon as I log into the computer, I'll let you know. (I feel kind of ashamed, you know ).
Before I made the changes, all I would get was a grey background with a gnome-terminal window (and sawfish window manager). This is what my ~/.vnc/xstartup looks like now:
OK.... I edited the file just like that... now I don't get the gone-terminal....Now I get... get... ... I get nothing. That's what I get. Just a gray screen (on VNC).
These are the two processes that are started by vnc:
Code:
9169 pts/0 S 0:00 Xtightvnc :1 -desktop X -auth /home/antoranz/.Xauthority -geometry 1024x768 -depth 24 -rfbwait 120000 -rfbauth /home/antoranz/.vnc/passwd -rfbport 5901 -fp /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/ -co /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb
9179 pts/0 S 0:00 /usr/lib/gconf2/gconfd-2 13
And this is vnc's log:
Code:
$ cat .vnc/proxy\:1.log

I created the .ICE-unix directory under /tmp, and set the owner to root. That was it. I was able to start the gnome session after that. I'll have to try with the monitor (:0 session). I'll keep you posted.
