Gnome Power manager not installed properly....boot impossible...keyboard unresponsive

Friends:

I updated 3 weeks ago on my laptop -Ubuntu op sys from 9.x to 10.04 after I received a notice that it is available. It was entirely from this prompt. I didn't do anything manually.

Now I receive the message a number of other users have:

"The configuration defaults for Gnome Power Manager have not been installed correctly. Please contact your computer administrator."

I have tried ESC and booting to one of the 7 or 8 options. Not successful. If I allow it to boot till it stops I have a non-responsive keyboard, with the above message. I have tried everything that I see on these message boards and nothing works. I cannot get a boot disk to load since it seems to not recognize the CD drive.

Any help would be 'muchly' appreciated.

Moses

Do you have a PS/2 keyboard? And none of the options allow you to drop to a terminal? Also, does your BIOS support booting from USB?

Smile Gnome PM....

Thanks for the reply Snark1994,

I have some resolution. I discovered that the boot sequence was reset which was rather cryptic, but was able to repair the upgrade. We went to Ubuntu 10.10 right away.

So far the only problem is now that there is a freeze in the system occasionally. Likely a new problem, but at least the Gnome Power Manager ....is resolved.

Thanks Again
Moe
