gnome 2.16 update/upgrade


I have been hearing about the new gnome 2.16 and its features. The problem is that i cannot get it throtugh uptitude, so what is the best way to get it into my ubunut OS.

Also if i have to compile from source what do i need?

Wait a few days and there will probably be a alternative apt server that will give you Gnome 2.16 for Ubuntu.

You probably will not see 2.16 in Dapper...too many things would need to be upgraded along with it which would endanger Ubuntus stable status.

If you want 2.16 upgrade to Edgy.

really? I was going to get Edgy, but reconfiguring my system -eh.

I would figure that there would be a third party repository for Gnome 2.16 on Dapper. Not the official Dapper mirrors but another one.

the thing is, i use my desktop for school and cant risk it being out of commission- even though i backup!
If get gnome from 3rd party, would it affect my system to a point of collapse of just be a nice upgrade? If ok, 3rd party like what/who?

I dont know who yet, It wouldn't bring it to the point of unusable because you could always switch back. I will try to post here when I find one. Cheers.
