firefox graphical installer/ XLIBS / KUBUNTU

Hi people,

I am using Kubuntu AMD 64 5.04, on my Compaq R3000z Notebook.. and i have this issue:

I downloaded Firefox from www.getfirefox.com, and uncompress it, in other distributions, like Fedora, or SuSe, the only thing i had to do was open de "firefox - installer" file, and the it opens a kind of wizard. Now in kubuntu, i double click on it, and it does not do anything.. so i tried it from Console, and it gave me a kind of GTK lib error, i went to de package manager of Kubuntu (kynaptic) and installed EVERYTHING has something to deal with the GTK name, After that, i did double click again, and NOTHING.. i did it from console (again) and received something different this time...

root@JAVBmobile:/home/javb/firefox-installer # ./firefox-installer

(firefox-installer-bin:9890): Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib

(firefox-installer-bin:9890): Gdk-WARNING **: can not set locale modifiers
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

(firefox-installer-bin:9890): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
root@JAVBmobile:/home/javb/firefox-installer #

--------------------------
dont know what to do, i DONT WANT TO INSTALL the firefox they give you via KYNAPTIC, is a GNOME BASED, and it does not get the KDE styles.. this a kind of bug the should fix. thanks

Have you tried getting Firefox from www.mozilla.org? That's where I always get mine, and it accepts KDE decorations, though I rarely use KDE.

Maybe you should check if root is allowed to login to kde:

you need to edit your kdmrc file, changing "AllowRootLogin=false" to "AllowRootLogin=true"

I dont know exactly where the file is anymore, but just search for it

Honestly, see my post above at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...56#post1672656

It is easy to install the official Firefox package, and it WILL allow you to have KDE decorations. I don't know why Ubuntu/Kubuntu is so sold on Gnome-centric packaging. It's a good distribution but it would be better without the Gnome "decor" which is ugly, often useless, and frustrating.

Please give the official package a try.
