Question fiesty

Hi all,

i recently installed fiesty fawn on machine having chipset as D845GLAD
and having graphics card as 82845G/GL[BROOKDALE-G]/GE CHIPSET integrated graphics device but hard drive was shown as SATA type by the ubuntu installer and after the installation as well (i.e as sda instead of hda ???) but i am very sure that this machine has only ide drives, why is this so ?????

it makes much more time to boot ???.
-[GRUB Loads]--

"Starting Up...
Loading, please wait..."

the screen goes blank ???. No writing, no nothing. Just blank.(this is same even when shutting down)

then after 10 minutes or so only the machine is booting moreover i am
not able to configure network card via system-> administration-> networking GUI applet. it is giving the message on the lines you are not authorized todo this

Does this mean that i have to make a root user and login as root to make changes???

Because starting from the 2.6.20 kernel, PATA and SATA disks are addressed by the same driver (libata) so that both PATA and SATA are now sda.

As for the issues you are having, I suggest that you take a look at the log files in /var or that you use the dmesg command. Those won't solve anything but they may give you an idea what is going wrong.
