Error while booting on laptop, 8.04, video problems

I've been browsing all over the internet searching for a solution but I cant seem to find one.

When I try a startx I get the two following errors

(EE) VESA (0): No matching modes
(EE) Screen(s) foung, but none have usable configuration

Fatal server error:
no screens found

I've tried a few things but unfortunately i'm fairly new to linux.

If theres any other information you need in order to help me, please let me know, (and also let me know how to get that information for you

thanks

when starting up your computer, choose Recovery Mode from the GRUB menu. Your PC will boot up on Single runlevel. You will get a list of options like "Resume" ... "Xfix" ... Select Xfix and your machine will autodetect your devices and set the default drivers accordingly. After this is done select resume and thereafter reboot your computer normally.

The resolution might be bad but always backup /etc/X11/xorg.conf before changing anything. You may need to install fglrx graphics driver but spend sometime reading through HOW-TO's before doing that.
