Deskjet 3740 HP won't print

Hello,

I have searched for a solution on fixing the problem, but nothing seemed to work. I have a Desktop 3740 HP printer hooked up via USB to my pc running Ubuntu 7.10 gutsy. It worked fine at first, but for some reason it just stopped working. When I go to localhost:631, it shows up just fine with the printer there.

I have it networked with my Windows XP laptop and I cannot print from there. In my printer queue, when viewing from my Windows XP laptop, it shows that there are a few paused documents that I cannot get rid of. I tried the windows spool trick without luck. I have also reinstalled cups, readded the printer with no progress. I'm basically stuck and annoyed.

I checked the cups log and saw this:

Code:
PID 9779 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip) stopped with status 3!
E [12/Jan/2008:19:01:55 -0500] [Job 9] Job stopped due to filter errors.
When I go to localhost:631 to try and print a test page, the job is automatically paused. Printer shows that it's idle, published and accepting jobs.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Oh and I did install the latest hpijs driver.

How about deleting the printer from the cups and reset up a new one.

Yeah, you'd think it would work, but it doesn't. I have done that a few times as well as completely removing/purging cups and then reinstalling. At the very beginning I just plugged it into the USB port and it worked. Nothing on the system changed that should affect this from what I can tell. Perhaps I am not looking in the right place?

Thought about it but have no other good ideas as long as firewall is not blocking localhost.

starts but jams

I too have an HP 3740 printer which had been working fine with Ubuntu (feisty and then gutsy). now for a couple of weeks, it jams and tries to rewind in the middle of printing. No major updates made just routine ugrades from adept. I thought it might be CUPS and was surprised to find CUPS not installed. after install, it improved function from some sources (citrix environment, firefox) but still jams on KDE based applications (KPDF) and open office. there is apparently an update bug with foomatic that is not yet resolved. (ubuntu bug #146742). By the way the printer works fine when switched to XP on another machine.
