When I search for 'sources.list ubuntu' in google the page is the last hit on the page.

Good page, didn't even know it existed.

I'm using Dapper Drake Beta now, and it looks really cool. Nice icons, nice deafault theme, a bit faster than breezy and way newer software. It hasn't crashed yet.

Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake LTS (rc) installed from the Dapper Desktop CD (GUI Installer).

Installs great. Installer is great. Everything goes properly except nvidia (can someone else verify this). With the nvidia driver installed, any media player playing any video format will freeze the x session solid. (Even playing goom with audio will do this ... have tried totem-gstreamer, totem-xine, xine-ui, xmms.)

I have used the suggestion in: http://easylinux.info/wiki/Ubuntu_dapper to install the driver (sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx).

Also: does anyone know what's happened to the goom plugin? It's gone primitive on me.

I have installed Ubuntu Dapper, using the Live CD installer. I installed kubuntu-desktop using apt-get, and everything is working great.

Simon: Check out this link for some more info on installing the Nvidia driver on Dapper.

Thanks for the link - I've used method 1.
Though investigating i note that I have the 386 kernel and not the 686 ... I don't think that should matter - just means I'll be going through this again a bit later.

I do not have nvidia-settings ... installing nvidia-settings removes the package "nvidia-glx". So I'm leaving it alone for now. I have the 8762 driver and ASUS GeForce nv6600. And, naturally, kver:2.6.15-23-386

Method 2 basically involves using the nvidia installer.
Which is next on my list... only this thing worked in breezy.

I found the following thread, in which is is commented that render acceleration has a memory leak ... turning this off allows me to run all the examples and any music with goom. DVD intros play... though Totem dosn't support the menue yet. Xine-ui just crashed playing a dvd, taking the entire x session with it. On reboot - the same bahaviour on all media occurred ... but was "fixed" by restarting the x server (re-restarting?)
