Question Configuring network using winxp and ubuntu?


Hello, in first place i wan't to apollogize for my english.
I'am a very fresh , i've installed ubuntu 2 days ago, and i've been searching the sollution for my problem but i didn't find it.
description of my problem
I have a pc where i have the winxp instaled, it's from this pc that i connect to the internet, on the 2º pc i've installed ubuntu, bouth pc's have network card and thei are connected directelly to each other ussing a crossfire cable, how can i create a network? where can i find a step to step manual? if possible explaining step by step on bouth pc's? can i create some sort of connection that doesn't requires bouth pc's power on?
i will keep trying to find out by my self.

Samba referencing the software that you need to be concerned with.


Just do a search of www.google.com/linux regarding a how-to referencing samba.

If you are looking for documentation on Samba, you can start with your own computer. There may be a samba-doc package.
Take a look in "/usr/share/doc/packages/samba/". This will contain howtos and 3 books on samba 3.

Also, there is a "Network Administrators Guide" available at the http://www.tldp.org website.

If all that you want to do is use the XP computer to share the internet connection, then you simply need to setup network sharing in the xp setup, and make the IP of the XP interface (on the crossover cable) the default gateway on the Ubuntu computer. You will also need to supply the nameserver IP addresses (AKA DNS addresses).
