cannot install new package

After installing ubuntu 7.10, I want to install some extra packages. But in shell, it tell me this
$ sudo apt-get -y install gftp
[sudo] password for zhang:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package gftp

In the GUI, it tells me this

Canonical Ltd. provides technical support and security updates for gFTP
gFTP cannot be installed on your computer type (i386). Either the application requires special hardware features or the vendor decided to not support your computer type.

They do not make any sense. Does anybody know what's wrong with it? BTW, I can connect to Internet for sure.
Thanks

"Does anybody know what's wrong with it?"

I don't know what the problem is with Canonical's support of gFTP. You can bypass the entire problem by installing gFTP from the tarball. I have done so several times in the past and installing gFTP is very straightforward.

sorry, I didn't explain it clearly. It is not ONLY about gftp, it is about every package. Even after I removed games, and want to see if I can install them back. It gave the same problem. To me, it seems like I cannot connected to servers, but I can browse internet. So it is weird.
