Can't get Ubuntu on my PC

I install Ubuntu 6.10 on other computer. I did not have any problem then.
When I put that hard disk on my Celeron(R) 2.00 ghz, 256 mb of RAM and boot

Alert! /deb/hda1 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

Busy Box v1.1.3 (debian 1:1.1 3-2 ubuntu 3) built - in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built - in commands.
/bin/SH:cant't acess tty; job control turnet off.

when I am installing with live cd on my computer

[4294799.028000] buffer 1/0 error on device hdb logical block 1
[...] buffer 1/0 error on device hdb logical block 2
.....

Seems your HD controller is not supported. Is your mainboard quite recent (less than six months)?

Also check if your BIOS is configured correctly.

Maybe I'm being too literal here - but did it actually say /deb/hda1?

See if HD's and CD-Roms get detected. Controller enabled?

There are several posts here from people claiming Edgy is having problems detecting their drives. Maybe you should try the older (6 months, longer support time) Dapper Drake 6.06.

Aha:

Is Ubuntu installed on an different hard drive than Windows then? Is the Linux drive attached as slave? If yes it is not hda but hdb. Try connecting it as master on the first channel.
