beep-media-player internationalization problem (font in display list)

I have problem with BMP in ubuntu hoary 5.04.

the play list can not display Asian fonts well. the question mark appeared in the play list and tagged with "(invalid UTF-8)", something like ????????????-??????? (invalid UTF-8).

I checked some forums and they all talked about that BMP is based on GTK2 and using Fontconfig to define the system fonts. I am not familir with font encoding, and till now, I still did not find any solution.

I'd like any comments towards this problem,

thank you
