alt-rightclick on panel doesn't work

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 with gnome-session-fallback to get Gnome3, I select Gnome-Classic on login. All works beautifully except that I can't remove any launchers from the panel. When I alt-rightclick on a launcher the menu only shows Launch and Properties. When I alt-rightclick on the panel nothing happens. If I alt-leftclick I can move the panel.

That's it! I thought I had tried every possible control key combination - but I obviously missed that one. Perhaps because I have an aversion to anything to do with Window$...

Go raibh maith agat. Thank you!
