Add-Remove quit working 9.04

Running jaunty 9.04...

Any ideas on how to repair the Add/Remove function in Applications? I noticed it not working today when I tried to remove the Gnome games. It freezes regardless of the function selected. Sometimes it's frozen as soon as it's opened and I'm unable to select anything.

Synaptic still works fine as does apt and aptitude.

Thanks for the help

Try running in terminal:
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get remove gnome-app-install
sudo apt-get install gnome-app-install
One line at a time please.

Using sudo apt-get remove gnome-app-install gives me:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
apturl gnome-app-install ubufox ubuntu-desktop

I'm not too keen on removing ubufox and ubuntu-desktop...if that's the only fix, then I'll try it...

So, here's what I get if I run gnome-app-install from the terminal...

Add/Remove opens and sits there...I'm unable to check anything, etc...so, I force quit and here's the output via terminal:

bob@ubuntu:~$ gnome-app-install

** (gnome-app-install:3699): WARNING **: return value of custom widget handler was not a GtkWidget
/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/AppInstall/AppInstall.py:1285: GtkWarning: gtk_tree_model_sort_sort: assertion `tree_model_sort->default_sort_func != NULL' failed
item.applications.set_default_sort_func(None)
/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/AppInstall/AppInstall.py:1295: GtkWarning: gtk_tree_model_sort_set_sort_column_id: assertion `tree_model_sort->default_sort_func != NULL' failed
item.applications.set_sort_column_id(-1, sort_type)
Killed

Is this a python error or a gnome error?

Any other possible repairs?

Thanks

I get the same output in terminal -- app-install works fine. You can re-install those other packages in terminal right after. Just don't reboot.
Code:
sudo apt-get install apturl
sudo apt-get install ubufox
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

But try this first:
Code:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

Okay, gave that a go...no change...I am stumped...

Cool

Just for clarity, what I'm saying is run these commands:
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get remove gnome-app-install
sudo apt-get install gnome-app-install
and right after re-install the collaterally removed packages with these commands:
Code:
sudo apt-get install apturl
sudo apt-get install ubufox
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
