yeah having access to the source code might making flaws easier to find by the 'bad guys', but it also makes them more quickly fixed by the 'good guys' because instead of waiting on a company who's vested interest is in adding features to sell rather than fixing flaws, a much larger base of people have the ability to just fix the problem themselves and share the fix back to the community
