The quote from the interview mentions systemd being possible, not "inevitable". There's a difference.

I hope not. There are plenty of udev forks out there, so I don't think there is any reason to switch. It is Pat V.'s decision.

Flippancy aside, Pat is very conservative when it comes to Slackware development.
