In a bid to speed up application development for its new mobile operating system, Android, Google is offering $10 million in prizes in the Android Developer Challenge.
Considering part of the Android SDK is closed proprietary, Google needs to offer a cash incentive. Otherwise everyone would develop for OpenMoko or the Nokia N800, since those competing GNU platforms are 100% open source.
