Quote:
Freedom is an ideal, a way of living. Freedom can only exist if people think Free and act Free. Free software and Open Source are tools which prevents the softwares from spying, but is not the final key for Freedom who deals with our entire life (not only computers) and belongs to people’s mind.

FOSS is not the only measure of freedom in our society, but it is a critical element of it. The problem we face is that the majority of people have come to fear freedom in any form. That explains their reluctance to use Linux, as well as their unwillingness to support real and substantial change in their governments.
The other side of the coin, however, is that the heart of mankind is strongly attracted to the concept of freedom, and may in time overcome his fear in order to possess it. Those who would limit the freedom of others for their own financial benefit are best compared to Lewis Carroll's jabberwocky, the ferocious beast that only needs to be confronted to be conquerored.
Another quote related to freedom which has applications to the FOSS environment, as well as the current political season in the USA:
Quote:
When the people fear their government, there is tyranny. When the government fears the people, there is liberty. - Thomas Jefferson
