For some unknown reason Canonical has yet again decided what is best for "everyone". The issue here isn't just the future of Kubuntu (I really didn't like the name but that's another matter) but the whole Ubuntu is the mainstay idea. Canonical has tried, unsuccessfuly, to ditch Gnome (even though Ubuntu depends heavily on Gnome technology) and doesn't support the other flavours as it should. To me if it was worthy of release all 6.06, 8.04, 10.04 should have been LTS but only Ubuntu was an LTS. This immediately says K/X/L/Edu are second class variants, so why would anyone bother using them unless they are a total fan of them? Sorry but this is yet another thing that tells me Canonical doesn't care about the diversity of our Linux ecosystem.
