I activate dual head in sax, but when I test it, only the flat panel gets the test. When I restart the graphics system, the CRT will show the GRUB and splash screen, but when X starts, it goes to the LCD and the CRT just goes blank. Lit up and the light is green as though it has a signal, but no graphics.
When I right click on desktop to configure, the drop down box for screens is grayed out, and only shows 'Screen 1'
Any help would be appreciated. I found a lot of posts about dual head but just could not seem to find an answer.
OK, so far this is not working. I have adjusted the BIOS to use my AGP as the primary monitor. However, the command 'x -configure' apparently does not work in SUSe, (as root or user) so what is the command to have x try to auto configure everything?
STill fiddling with at at the moment, but on that gentoo wiki, the files are looking different than what I have so far.
It appears as though my xorg.conf file does not reference my second card or second monitor for that matter. Yet the second card (MX400) is listed in the hardware profile, so I know suse sees it. Still trying to figure this out. I tried editing the file with some examples I've found, only to have x not start at all, so I had to restore this x config to get back up and running, but only with one monitor.
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace just boots me out to the login screen. I have tried everything, but no luck. I tried booting to failsafe mode, and ran X -configure, and the screen went blank and that was it. I had to reboot. Not having much luck with this, so I'm gonna let it go unless anyone has any other ideas.
The newer Nvidia card only works with the newer drivers and the older card only works with the legacy drivers. I successfully configured each card individually (only one card in the system at a time) But cannot get them to work together. I guess you cannot have 2 different drivers loaded for 2 different Nvidia cards. So, I'll shop for another FX 5700 for now.
Yeah the screen is ment to go blank. You can do it if you run one driver as nvidi-1 and one driver as nvidia-2. Basically what i mean is intaall the two nvidia drivers except save one at nvidia-1 and the other at nvidia-2 then load diffrent drivers for each card.
OK I think I am getting close here. What I did was remove the older video card. I installed the latest nvidia drivers from the command line as per the instructions on their website. Then I ran:
sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia
Then I installed the older card. Booted up, went to init 3 and installed the legacy drivers from the command line. Then I ran:
sax2 -r -m 1=nvidia
I rebooted and tried to run sax2
The monitors flickered, and the second monitor started to come up, I could see the gray screen with the 'x' cursor for a second, then it just went back to my desktop. sax2 will not open up so I can activate dual head.
By the way, what are the switches (-r -m) in the sax2 config command? For a brief second after I ran the second sax2 config for the second card, a message said something like 'something went wrong' Try running sax2 -p, so I did and it listed both cards, identifying them correctly as AGP and PCI.
I know I am getting close since both monitors were lit up for a second.
I also ran X -configure and the screen just goes blank, and never comes back up like before, so I have to reboot
Any ideas?
By the way, as root I ran sax2 from konsole and got this:
SaX: initializing please wait...
SaX: your current configuration will not be read in
SaX: access to your display has been granted
Xlib: extension "XFree86-Misc" missing on display ":0.0".

SaX: ups lost card during probing... abort
SaX: something went wrong while X was called with -probeonly
SaX: try to call 'sax2 -p' and select a single device ?
abort
UPDATE - I tried to run sax2 in runlevel 3 and basically got the same error message, and also saw something like:
NVIDIA - No matching device section for instance (BusID PCI:0:13:0) found in xorg.conf
That is my second video card. I updated my xorg.conf in my first post. Somehow I need to reference the second video card in that file?
