Unhappy yast2 problems

Hello,
This is my first question and I am happy to join this forum. I recently upgraded from suse 11.3 to 12.1. I was installing NCAR command Language and I used .profile to put the path to the NCAR. However, when I type ncl from the command prompt, it has the following output.

ncl: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0.9.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

So i googled this problem and found that people make symbolic links for the libssl.so and libcrypto library files, since they had no extensions like libssl.so.10.9 e.t.c. Being a newbie, I can't really remember which of the file i put first while writing the link file 'ln -s ..." command. All in all the problem was not solved and I had to remove the linked files which were highlighted in red from /usr/lib/ and /lib/ for the libssl and libcrypto files respectively.

So now when i go to yast and want to do anything, I get this message ...

/usr/lib/YaST2/bin/y2base: error while loading shared libraries: /lib/libssl.so.1.0.0: file too short
/usr/lib/YaST2/bin/y2base: error while loading shared libraries: /lib/libssl.so.1.0.0: file too short

If someone knows how to work on these two problems, I will be grateful.
It is great to enter this forum.

did you look in /usr/lib64 ( or /usr/lib)
" libssl3.so " is used

and in /lib64 ( or /lib) is "libssl.so.1.0.0"

in this case there is no need to make a link
0.9.8 is in the repos
Code:
su -
zypper se ssl
--- from the list install it ---
zypper in libopenssl0_9_8

one thing you can try for using old software is make a link ( it works ? most? of the time )
you DID make a unique root password that is NOT your normal everyday user's password )
--- for 32 bit opensuse 12.1 ---
Code:
su -
---- your root password when asked for ---
ln -s /lib/libssl.so.1.0.0 /lib/libssl.so.0.9.8

that ???? might ???? work

Thanks John VV
Most of the superuser commands are not working and that includes zypper too. Although "ln" is working, I have tried to go back to history and undo what I have done but it has been fruitless. This is the comment I get when I run zypper ...

zypper: error while loading shared libraries: /lib/libssl.so.1.0.0: file too short

When I run sudo ...

sudo: unable to dlopen /usr/lib/sudo/sudoers.so: /lib/libssl.so.1.0.0: file too short
sudo: fatal error, unable to load plugins

I can't use yast, can't zypper, or sudo e.t.c., It is actually amazing

if you can not become root .... you have a big problem

you DO have a back up from the 11 to 12 new install ?

reinstall
but do not copy over the old 11 home folder on to the 12 install
almost non of the old 11 settings will work on 12
and this time use the custom install settings and set the root password to a DIFFERENT password than your normal user

yes there is a setting to make a real root account with it's own password
