Yast and rpm locations

I'd like to update my 9.1, especially with KDE 3.3. I've been trying to add folders at the ftp site. There seems to be no end of folders, most of which I can't get Yast to accept. The only ones I can add as a source end in yast-source. There are an awful lot of folders out there, and I know I am missing some. (For example, I can't upgrade to KDE 3.3, because of libjasper1.701.so.1 I haven't found that, yet.) I have been adding an ftp source, by entering ftp.suse.com as the server and the rest of the path as the location.

How is one supposed to do this? Do I search for all folders with a yast-source? Is there some other way to specify these folders? Can one specify an upper level folder and expect Yast to recursively search?

To update KDE, only one folder is necessary to add. This one ends, as you already found out for yourself, with 'yast-source'

On ftp.suse.com this would be pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.1/yast-source

But use a mirror!

What is the advantage of using a mirror? Is the Suse site slow?

The purpose of a mirror is to reduce internet traffic and to make the site more available. If you choose a mirror that has a closer location to yourself, the speed might be higher, the connection more reliable. Also the mirror maybe has not such a high load that the main site. Mostly there are user limits set.

If you do a KDE update, it becomes easily 500 MB of data to download. It is in your own interest to get the data as fast and safe as possible
