What files/programs run when I log in?

I ask because two days ago, my login started going only so far then hanging. I'm running suse 11.3 with kde 4.4.4. The login
get to the point where it shows the desktop but doesn't change to the wallpaper I've set. The system has been stable for a quite a while. My email had stopped working and I rebooted the system when this occured. I had closed all applications before I shutdown (yes a power down) and brought it back up.
I was able to log in with the root account and create another user account that has no issue (at present) I can telnet into the errant user and it works at that level.
So I figure something is being ran that has it hosed. That is why I'd like to know what runs when I login.

Thanks,

Robert

For your user, whatever you see in .bashrc if bash is your default profile.

For everyone who logs in look at /etc/profile

seeing as OpenSUSE 11.3 is unsupported( it went End of Life in Jan 2012) and so is 11.4 and 12.1

it is time to upgrade to openSUSE 12.3
see the opensuse "lifetime" page
http://en.opensuse.org/Lifetime

seeing as a new normal user is working
it sounds like bad config files in that home folder

the cause can be any of many things , even a bad disk sector .

start with renaming the ( old user ) ~.kde4 (/home/YourUserName/.kde4) folder to to .kde4.backup
then log out and log back in
